On Saturday 22 April 2017 – Earth Day – the Cambridge Conservation Initiative hosted a celebration of positive conservation stories in a global movement of #EarthOptimism.
Over the course of a day, an estimated 1,500 people visited the David Attenborough Building to take part in #EarthOptimism events. These included the chance to listen to personal stories from inspiring speakers, including Dame Jane Goodall, Sir David Attenborough and Professor Steven Pinker, who all addressed attendees as part of the 'Stories of Hope' talks programme. Running alongside the Stories of Hope was a hands-on 'Solutions Fair', in which over 30 contributors showcased a variety of ways in which we can all lessen our impact on the planet, from what we buy and consume to how we spend our time. Over 70 volunteers, many of them sixth-form students, worked alongside contributors to ensure it was an unforgettable day.
