Tsinghua - Cambridge Joint Research Initiative Fund in Sustainability and Future Emerging Technologies

Extraordinary call for proposals in response to the Covid-19 pandemic:

In 2019 Tsinghua University (TSINGHUA) and the University of Cambridge (CAMBRIDGE) established the Tsinghua - Cambridge Joint Research Initiative Fund, a five-year initiative to strengthen research collaborations between academics in the two institutions. The initiative reflects the commitment of both universities to work together on addressing global challenges, such as climate change, food security or infectious diseases. In its first call in the fall of 2019 the initiative supported 13 currently ongoing projects within the broad theme of sustainability and future emerging technologies.

The initiative recently issued an extraordinary call for funding a number of collaborative projects between academic groups at the two universities that are seeking to contribute to addressing urgent challenges in relation to the Covid-19 global health emergency. The pandemic requires a strong, collaborative international response and open sharing of experience gained in tackling it. Two projects have already been funded under this extraordinary call. However, we are aware that there was significant interest in this call but not all interested researchers were able to submit proposals due to the short timescale for the submission of proposals. Therefore, the call will remain open for a 2nd closing at the end of August.

Inter-Research Science Publisher

The global conservation research community is coming together to recognise the problems the Corona pandemic is creating for some scientists and to find solutions. We are delighted to be part of the project Publication Partners and welcome submissions resulting from it. Publication Partners aims to help conservation scientists who face difficulties trying to complete a manuscript due to the Corona pandemic (e.g. single parents, parents with working partners, those with elderly parents or others in difficult circumstances) by matching them with potential helpers ( see here for details ).

Industry Challenge-Led Pump-Prime Funding Scheme

Cambridge Knowledge Exchange Network (KEN) colleagues are invited to apply for up to £20k of ‘pump priming’ funding for challenge-led activities, to support collaborative research between the University and industry.

Meetings between the KEN community and the Pro-VC for Enterprise and Business Relations in 2017 have identified significant potential to increase collaborative research between the University and industry. This centrally managed fund of £100k will add considerable value to the investment already being made by individual KEN colleagues in challenge-led activities.

Subject to funding availability, the funding scheme is open for application each term. Please pay attention to further notice on the open and closing dates of each call for application. Please click here for the the Application Outline.
