Global Mangrove Alliance - Case Study
Overview
The Global Mangrove Alliance is a worldwide collaboration of NGOs, governments, scientists, industry, local communities and funders focused on conserving and restoring mangrove ecosystems.
As part of the wider collaboration, CRI researchers have contributed multiple analyses that provide information on where mangroves have been lost, their value for carbon and fisheries, and potential areas for restoration.
Supporting Global Action
The research has provided the underpinning science for the Global Mangrove Alliance’s and the Mangrove Breakthrough’s global goals and provides the context for the Breakthrough’s $4 billion funding aim.
The research produced in CRI provides a strong component of the Global Mangrove Watch geospatial platform, providing open access data to users to aid the conservation and restoration of these ecosystems. Further this research has provided the catalyst for developing collaborations of 100s of mangrove scientists from around the world.
