For changemakers, students, and everyone seeking hope, direction, and clarity during a time of global uncertainty, join us for the launch of the book Eco-Social Contracts for Sustainable and Just Futures that serves as both a call to action and a guide for transformation—encouraging readers to imagine and co-create sustainable and just futures.

Join us on 19 May when Dr Najma Mohamed (Atlantic Fellow for Social and Economic Equality and Head of Nature-Based Solutions at UNEP-WCMC), and a co-editor of the book, will discuss how eco-social contracts are a bold and actionable vision for tackling the major, interconnected crises of our time—climate change, biodiversity loss, rising inequality, and the erosion of public trust and democratic legitimacy.

Najma will be joined in discussion by Karen Wong-Perez (Senior Researcher, IIED, Climate Change, Strengthening Partnerships Team) and Thiago Uehara (Principal Specialist: Nature, People and Development, UNEP-WCMC), with a drinks reception to follow in the DAB Common Room.

Dr Najma Mohamed is an Atlantic Fellow for Social and Economic Equity, the Head of Nature-Based Solutions at UNEP WCMC, and a co-editor of Eco-Social Contracts for Sustainable and Just Futures. She works at the intersection of climate, nature, and social justice in development policy and practice focusing on ideas and solutions that address climate change, fight inequality, and restore nature.

Karen Wong-Perez focuses on justice dimensions of climate change. She works on a variety of issues related to climate, gender, and environmental justice, including citizen engagement processes for socially-just climate action, site-level assessments for equity and governance, and equitable multi-stakeholder partnerships. Karen works with grassroots networks and collaborative initiatives to understand factors that enable the meaningful citizen engagement processes for locally led climate action and whole-of-society responses to climate change.

Dr Thiago Uehara works across the human, social and technical dimensions of biodiversity & land use governance, focusing on justice, equity and the drivers of biodiversity loss. He leads the Nature for Development initiative at UNEP-WCMC and helps shape the Centre’s work on transformative change and Nature-based Solutions.
