Sustainable timber production on a changing planet

One third of all forests globally are used for timber production, and demand for timber is expected to double by 2050. Ensuring a sustainable timber production system despite the increasing environmental risks posed by climate change is therefore a critical challenge for the 21st century. Here I will explore the threat posed by, and possible mitigation options, for two key climate-induced risks to future timber production: wildfire, and land conflict with agriculture.

The meeting will again be taking place on Teams (joining instructions below) and for those based in Cambridge, the talk will be taking place in the Manatee Room, David Attenborough Building.
