Early Career Researcher Programme

Policy-engaged research

Host: Chloe King, PhD candidate, Department of Geography

What does it actually look like when academic research shapes policy and practice? PhD and early career researchers are increasingly expected to deliver impact alongside their theoretical and empirical contributions. This session will facilitate a discussion of what that might mean across disciplines, institutions, and contexts, inviting participants to share challenges faced and strategies employed to navigate and create project impact. The session will be led by Chloe King, a fourth-year PhD researcher in the Department of Geography, whose work in the Galapagos Islands has led to changes in laws and policies, but who will also share her experience facing significant challenges and institutional pushback in this policy-engaged research project.
