ECR Programme: Skills Workshop

Arts-based methods: What are they and how could I use them in my research?

Hosts: Alice Lawrence and María Inés Hernández, Department of Geography and CRI

This session will provide an introductory exploration of arts-based methods in environmental social science research, presented by Alice and Inés. The discussion will include concrete examples illustrating how creative approaches, including embroidery, participatory theatre and poetic inquiry, could be employed to gather data and learn with participants. Furthermore, we will examine the potential of such methods to bridge disciplinary divides and engage with alternative ways of knowing, as well as to facilitate more ethical and collaborative research environments in contexts  of violence and vulnerability. We will also leave ample time for discussion so please bring your questions, musings and thoughts!
