Julen has wide expertise on the interconnections between nature, biodiversity and financial systems and will speak to us on the role of measurement.
Abstract
As nature loss accelerates and biodiversity risks move rapidly up the financial agenda, financial institutions face growing exposure, but also emerging opportunities. This introductory lecture is designed to build a shared foundation for understanding how nature, biodiversity and the financial system are interconnected.
The session will first explore how financial institutions both impact and depend on nature, providing a conceptual grounding for understanding nature-related risks and opportunities. It will then introduce key global frameworks shaping the agenda. Building on this, the lecture will move into more technical aspects, focusing on the measurement of biodiversity impacts and dependencies- one of the most critical first steps in embedding nature financial decision-making and enabling more informed action.
