Conservation Communication: Engaging audiences through magazines

Facilitated by Dr Caitlin Kight, science communicator and Associate Editor of Current Conservation.

Science and nature magazines remain an important channel for conservation outreach, with readership holding steady and even increasing across both print and digital forms. This workshop will support scientists and researchers who are interested in learning how to communicate using this flexible and diverse medium. Designed and facilitated by science communicator and Associate Editor Dr. Caitlin Kight from the successful online and print publication Current Conservation, the session will explore essential considerations for writing for a magazine, including choosing your audience, selecting the right format for your messaging, and finding your narrative. While some of the discussion will be generalisable from and to other forms of science communication, this particular session will incorporate practical activities that will help you to begin a piece that you could subsequently submit to Current Conservation or another magazine of your choice.

Register here to attend the workshop (Deadline 30 August).
