Doing Research from a Distance - Charlotte Milbank

In light of the travel restrictions under the COVID-19 pandemic many research fieldwork plans have been disrupted. The uncertainty of future travel means that researchers are having to re-think their fieldwork plans and adjust their research accordingly. This session will hear from a variety of panellists covering how to conduct remote research, build off adversity and seize opportunities to explore novel insights and methodologies.

Panellists Include:

  • Dr Alex Cullen - talking about use of ICT/apps in remote research
  • Dr Charlotte Lemanski - conducting research in low income settings during lockdowns by collaborating with local (on-the-ground) researchers
  • Lucy Goodman, PhD Candidate in Land Economy and Geography - talking about conducting Q method online as well as some reflections on what she's lost and gained from moving her PhD remotely
