We are delighted to welcome Tom who will be talking about ‘Situating mental health within the nature-climate-wellbeing triple challenge: Evidence from rural Uganda’.

Ecological change poses new and significant threats to human health, such as infectious diseases emerging at the forest-farm frontier. There is a growing understanding of how this change impacts physical health. But, comparatively little is known about the consequences for mental illness – an emerging global priority. I will discuss how changing landscapes affect lives and livelihoods in ways that affect mental health, drawing on a western Ugandan case study. Building on this, we can discuss how approaches to the triple challenge – like plans to expand protected areas to 30% of the world’s surface by 2030 – might support or undermine global mental health.
