What are the risks of COVID? And what is meant by ‘the risks of COVID”.

This week, Wednesday 10 June 2:00pm, Professor Sir David Spiegelhalter will be presenting: "What are the risk of COVID? And what is meant by 'the risks of COVID".

Sir David is Chair of the Winton Centre for Risk and Evidence Communication in the University of Cambridge, which aims to improve the way that statistical evidence is used by health professionals, patients, lawyers and judges, media and policy-makers. He advises organisations and government agencies on risk communication and is a regular media commentator on statistical issues, with a particular focus on communicating uncertainty.

Sir David has been a highly visible presence in the media (e.g., the BBC, Channel 4, The Guardian, The TImes) providing regular commentary on the statistical issues of the COVID outbreak. He has written a blog explaining the risks of COVID and spoken openly on the BBC Andrew Marr show about his concerns on the government’s use of “untrustworthy statistics” at daily coronavirus briefings for communicating data. He will talk about the challenges of using numbers – “an epidemic of statistics about this pandemic” – to better understand what is going on with COVID-19, the risks we have faced and may face.

The webinar will be chaired by Professor James Wood, Co-Chair of Cambridge Infectious Diseases and Head of the Department of Veterinary Medicine
