Conservation Research Institute

Fostering effective collaborations between academic research and and practice in the field is a key focus for CCI. CCI has now therefore established a project called Fostering action-orientated research for conservation, which brings academics from the University of Cambridge Conservation Research Institute together with leading conservation practitioners from CCI’s partners to supervise ‘knowledge-exchange’ doctoral studentships. The idea behind these knowledge-exchange studentships is that the conservation organisations will benefit from the intellectual insight brought through collaborating with the student, while the student themselves will gain experiences and insight that will feed into their research and understanding of biodiversity conservation.

Funds are available to support two studentships. Applications are now invited from students who have started, or are starting, their PhD between October 2020-June 2021. There will be an additional call released in 2021 for students starting their PhDs in the 2021/2022 academic year. £45,000 is available for each studentship, over a 3-year period, to cover the costs incurred by the conservation organisation associated with hosting the PhD student.

CCI is extremely grateful to the Evolution Education Trust for supporting the Fostering action-orientated research for conservation project.
