Conservation Research Institute

In her research, Simone Markoff is analyzing different pathways to enhance food security while simultaneously preserving biodiversity. With Tanzania as a case study, she is exploring how biodiversity would be impacted by an increase in crop production and how such an increase would impact the agricultural markets. In order to model scenarios of possible future land use changes in which biodiversity and crop production are considered differently, she is collecting data with experts' questionnaires and interviews. This data will then be used in a model to simulate impacts on the Tanzanian economy.
