Joss Lyons-White is a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Conservation and Development Group at the University of Cambridge. His research is primarily centered around the issue of tropical deforestation, which is primarily driven by the expanding production of agricultural commodities, such as palm oil. Of particular interest to him is the role that private-sector commitments to "zero deforestation" play in this complex problem.

Joss commenced his postdoctoral research journey in the Environmental Policy Lab at ETH Zurich. He successfully earned his PhD from Imperial College London, where he employed systems thinking techniques to delve into ways to enhance the sustainability of agricultural commodity production systems. In this context, he applied a methodology known as Critical Systems Heuristics to delve into the challenges and opportunities associated with zero deforestation commitments in the regions of Gabon and Liberia.

Joss Lyons-White's research work has made significant contributions to the field and has been published in reputable journals such as Global Environmental Change, One Earth, and Land Use Policy. Furthermore, his research findings have garnered attention in the media, with coverage in outlets like The Independent.

Before embarking on his doctoral journey, Joss completed a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Philosophy at the University of Oxford. He furthered his academic pursuits with a Master of Science in Conservation Science at Imperial College London. Beyond his academic endeavors, Joss also gained practical experience in the field of private-sector conservation while working with the HCV Resource Network. Prior to pursuing his Master's degree, he dedicated five years to the realm of scientific communications, thereby amassing a well-rounded background in his field of expertise.
