Research

Leon's present research focus is on managing the biodiversity impacts of development. This includes issues such as achieving 'no net loss' or 'net gain' for biodiversity and ecosystem services, designing out-of-kind offsets, policy approaches to compensation for biodiversity impacts in different contexts, biodiversity metrics for natural capital accounting, strengthening the information base for risk assessment and mitigation design, integrated landscape planning, baselines, additionality and leakage in biodiversity offsets, the business case for biodiversity and ecosystem services management, and corporate contributions to remaining within safe planetary boundaries.
