I am working on how we can advance the use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) to aid in low-cost monitoring of tropical rainforest restoration programmes. I am particularly focussed on the Harapan Rainforest project on Sumatra and my work is supported by RSPB, one of the partners to this project. I come to my PhD from a background in mathematics, moving to biology at the cell level in a master’s in systems biology. I now apply methods for image analysis to UAV-collected imagery and have spent time in the field expanding the imagery data we have available.
