Dr André Butler is a Research Associate in the Department of Land Economy, working in the Centre for Landscape Regeneration with Professor Shailaja Fennell.

Using quasi-experimental methods, his research has broadly focused on investigating the drivers of economic growth and development in the agricultural sector, as well as their consequences on the environment and political economy.

Prior to joining the University of Cambridge in July 2023, he was a Stipendiary Fellow at the University of Edinburgh, having obtained PhD degrees in Economics (2023) and Earth Science (2011) there. During his studies in Earth Science, André published papers on vegetation-atmosphere interactions and their implications for climate change.
